3 tiers of Virtualization, Sorry too quick on buttons last comment
- Servers, pretty straight forward, getting to be fairly mature
- Worksations/desktops, full on Windows, even Linux desktops that you remote control over the web. I’m part of the team supporting >800 at work.
- Apps, this lets you encapsulate apps, so the impact on the desktop is minimal.
Management of the platforms is really hard, and not mature, but by virtualizing the desktops, if you have an issue, I can blow it away and give you a new one in just a few minutes. When your apps are virtualized too, (google thinapp), you can give a user a bare system with just shortcuts to the apps that sit on the server and can’t be monkeyed with by the users.
It’s a ride and a half right now as it comes to fruition.
Cloud is still another thing.
